A social enterprise of The Schaffa Foundation PoliciesContact the Foundation

Future skills for every family.

Real coding courses for young people, free for families doing it tough. Paid work for people who've found it hard to get a start. Training providers who license our courses pay for both.

The first social enterprise of The Schaffa Foundation. See our first course, Code Quest.

Ask about licensing

Every licence does good three times over.

The Academy is a social enterprise. It earns its own income from the courses it sells, and puts that income back into the people it exists to help.

1Licences 2Free places 3Paid jobs 4Better courses 1 licence three kinds of good
  1. Providers license our courses

Tutoring businesses, training providers and schools, in Australia and overseas, pay to use Code Quest with their learners.

  2. Families learn for free

That income pays for free places for young people whose families couldn't otherwise afford a course like this.

  3. People get paid work

It also pays wages. Our course testers, learning mentors and family support team are people who've found it hard to get a job.

  4. The courses get better

That team tests every new lesson and hears every question, so each course gets clearer for the next learner, and the next provider.

Grants, sponsorship and gifts to The Schaffa Foundation help us start sooner and reach more families.

The digital divide is widest where support is thinnest.

One in five Australians is digitally excluded. For people who didn't finish school, it's more than half. Meanwhile, the jobs that need these skills keep growing.

1.3 million

tech workers Australia is expected to need by 2030, according to the Australian Computer Society.

Nothing is tested before it's taught.

Every quest follows the same three steps, so a beginner always knows what comes next.

  1. Learn

A short lesson in plain English, with a worked example explained line by line. Learners can change it and run it.

  2. Check

One quick question to make sure the idea landed. A wrong answer sends them back to the lesson, never to a penalty.

  3. Build

Then the challenge: write the code, run the hidden tests, and try again as many times as it takes. Hints are there if they're stuck.

Engineered by HostSavers.

The Academy runs on its own learning platform, designed, built and hosted by HostSavers and donated to the Foundation. This is what's under the hood.

0

Third-party scripts

A strict security policy blocks anything the Academy doesn't serve itself. No ads, analytics or trackers.

100%

Of learner code runs on their device

Python is compiled in the browser, so a learner's code never runs on our servers.

0

Passwords

One-time sign-in links, stored only as SHA-256 fingerprints and used once.

12/12

Quests machine-checked

Every example, quick check and solution in Code Quest is run by an automated checker before release.

Robot

Tested in a real browser

Before each release, an automated tester signs in and completes every quest, just as a learner would.
