What we collect on this site, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
This site is run by The Schaffa Foundation for Schaffa Foundation Academy. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles and the Foundation's Privacy policy.
What we collect
- When you apply or enquire: your name, email or phone, postcode, the course you're interested in, the ages of the young people you're applying for, and anything you choose to tell us. For providers, your organisation and roughly how many learners you have.
- When you register for work: your name, email, phone (if given), postcode, the work that interests you, the service helping you (if any), and anything you choose to tell us. We never ask why you're looking for work.
- For parents with an account: your name and email address.
- For adult learners: a first name, an email or username, the full name you'd like on your certificate (if you give one), and your learning activity. If you finish a course, your certificate's code lets anyone who has it see your certificate name, the course and the date. You can switch that off on your My progress page.
- For learners: a first name, and their learning activity: lessons finished, answers to quick checks, the code they write, test results, hints used and time spent.
- When you sign in: a cookie that keeps you signed in. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
Why we collect it
To assess applications, reply to enquiries, contact people about work, to run the courses, to show parents how their child is going, to send the weekly summary email, and to report overall results to our board and funders. Reports to the board and funders never identify an individual child.
Where it's kept
On servers in Australia, operated by HostSavers. Emails are sent through an email delivery service, which sees the recipient's address and the message.
How long we keep it
Learning records are kept while a learner is enrolled and for as long as a family needs them for home-schooling registration. Applications and work registrations that don't go further are deleted after 12 months. You can ask us to delete your family's information at any time.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you or your child. You can turn off the weekly email in your dashboard's controls. Contact us at hello@academy.schaffafoundation.org.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, contact us first. If we can't resolve it, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
